Progress of Project

Centre Volunteers have taken the skills learnt at The Oral History Training Day held earlier in the year, and we were able to
interview a number of local residents about their wartime memories. These memories, along with information from photographs and the county archive, have been fused together to create a unique peice of theatre by Joy Elizabeth.

We have received some fantastic photographs and memories from the public, shedding light on the time period and helping us preserve the town’s history. Centre volunteers, including some new volunteers, have participated in an Oral History Training Day, so we now have the skills to tape interviews with those who knew evacuees at school or who had evacuees stay with them.

Members of the group continue to be busy researchng and collecting memories.

The researchers will:

Research contemporary accounts and newspapers

• Collect original photographs and other documents

• Record reminiscences of community members experiences

Training will be given for the recording of reminiscences, probably 2 half mornings - Tuesday 19th and Tuesday 26th February.
