THE PROJECT IS NOW FINISHED

A Grant of nearly £10,000 was awarded to the Heritage Centre for this exciting project 'Evacuation In Rothwell'. This was part of a nationwide programme called 'Their Past, Your Future' being run by the Museums Libraries and Archives Council. The money helped to pay for research into the town's wartime experiences. We were one of just 28 organisations nationwide which was successful in its bid for the cash from the Big Lottery Fund.

With this innovative project we:

• Researched contemporary accounts and newspapers
• Collected original photographs and other documents
• Recorded reminiscences of community members experiences
• Created workshops involving people from 8 to 85 years of age, which devised a new theatre piece
• Performed this original piece of theatre
• Created a portable interpretive exhibition
• Participated in Rothwell Carnival
• Created a fantastic resource for loaning to community groups and schools

SO DESPITE IT BEING FINISHED WE HAVE ONGOING RESOURCES FOR THE FUTURE AS A RESULT
